On thing to remember is that anyone engaging in the app is much more likely to be a writer. That’s whether they’re taking the poll on the app or seeing other substackers share it around in Notes. As far as I can tell writer-readers outnumber pure readers 10- or 15-to-1 in Notes visibility and engagement.
Plus you also get people like me who came to substack to find an audience and see what other people are doing. The vast majority of fiction I consume will be books. I’d say only 25% of the reading I do here is done with the mindset of “I’ll just sit and enjoy this,” even though that’s obviously the attitude I want all my readers to take when they see my stuff. I share because I’m certain I’m not the only one with that mindset.
