This cover doesn’t promise heroes. It promises a room full of cutthroats, plotters, mercenaries, and at least one person who knows where the bodies are buried. Walter Velez gives Thieves’ World that perfect late-’70s tavern-of-doom energy with candlelight, steel, cloaks, and the kind of faces that make you count your fingers after the handshake. It’s less “epic quest” and more “urban rot with daggers,” which is exactly the point. You can practically hear the tankards, whispers, and betrayal clauses from the spinner rack.
