It’s been slow this summer here at detect magic, but the kids are heading back to school and things are settling down a bit allowing more time for planning, thinking and writing. Along those lines, I wanted to provide an update of my plans over the remaining months of 2024 and into 2025. This update is a little longer than normal. So, without further ado, let’s hit it.
Random Encounters / For those of you that made the journey the first half of the year, we met Tasol and Myra in the episodic story, The World Stone, as they learn how their fate is tied to the world. No spoilers, but they reach a critical point in their journey at the end of Arc One that concluded in June 2024. For ease of reading, I posted the completed story of Arc One in various formats so that you can read it more book-style instead of episodic. Gearing up for the fall, earlier this month I posted a new short story – The Babbling Brook.
All posts to random encounters will also have the dragon graphic that can be seen on the home page.
Posting Schedule: As you’ll see below, I have some big plans closing out 2024 and into 2025, so going forward I’ll be back to posting a monthly short story. However, in all transparency, these may be less frequent as I find the need to commit more time to the stories below, so bear with me as I feel this out.
The Rest of the Stories…
Now to the really exciting stuff…
I’ll just kick through them one by one.
The Last Gambler
The biggest news is my decision to indie publish my urban fantasy novel, The Last Gambler, the first in a duology (I’m currently writing book two). You’ll see a new section header for it on detect magic and I’ll be sharing more information in the near future. As of now, my plan for The Last Gambler is to publish the first three chapters on detect magic with the complete book available for purchase through Amazon and others via IngramSpark. For transparency, I want to try Kindle Unlimited—to do so my understanding is that I’m limited to publishing no more than 10% as a free sample. That’s about three chapters. I’m hoping that people enjoy the sample enough to support an indie writer by buying the rest of the story. We’ll see🤞
The Stone Room
The first part of the story is complete—coming as soon as I can get it edited and proofread. It’s the first in the series, and I’ve already outlined the whole thing. More details will be coming as I get closer to publishing, but it will be part of detect magic, published in full here, chapter by chapter. Like The Last Gambler, I’ll make the full story available for purchase for those who want to support an indie writer (and want to read at a faster pace). This one will not be on Kindle Unlimited, so it’ll all be on detect magic. By the way, The Stone Room is a working title and may change.
Project Thane
This is my most audacious project yet and I’m still working out the details—planning and plotting the world and how it will work. It’s coming in 2025 (perhaps sooner). For now, let’s just say it will be an epic fantasy that’ll be published chapter by chapter, designed exclusively for detect magic.
Next Steps
Ok, so you can see I’ve got a few things to write!
Let me know what you think and what you’re excited about.
Or, just let me know you’re alive and I’m not shouting into the void.
No, you aren't shouting into the void...I love how ambitious your plans are! (I also love the two swords at the bottom of your post!)
I'll be around, reading as much of your stuff as I can, watching and learning.
Happy writing!
Exciting update! Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out.
