Words have been written, and stories have been told as a new chapter opens on detect magic. Over the past year, I’ve been posting short stories under the random encounters section, and it finally hit me – I enjoy reading short stories, but writing them aren’t really my jam. I’ve come to the realization that I love writing and sharing longer stories where I can flesh out characters, weave tales, and world-build.
To that end, I’ll be changing things around with random encounters. Going forward, I’ll use it to serially publish fantasy novellas – the first starting in January 2024. I’ll be following the modern mantra – move fast and break things – as I work in haste to publish fresh episodes for you to read. These will be lightly edited, closer to the raw umber scratchings of a first draft, so they’ll come with a certain grit and seediness. The words laid bare, good or bad, for all to see.
The first novella, The World Stone, begins on Wednesdays in January 2024, where the tale will unfold week by week, episode by episode, perhaps with some bonus episodes peppered in. The ink is still drying on the pages where we’re introduced to Tasol Jasper, a young man from Bannion, a place where magic is myth from ages past. Our story begins with Tasol inadvertently exposing a secret, putting himself and his estranged sister Myra in peril. As family bonds resurface, Myra confesses a shocking act committed to protect Tasol. Their fragile reunion shatters when an ominous visitor disrupts their quiet night, forcing them to confront a new danger together.
Thanks for your patience as I continue to revamp detect magic. This isn’t the last of the changes, so stay tuned for more in the coming weeks and months.
That’s it for today.
Thanks for reading, subscribing, and sharing.
